This ring is modeled after the industrial fastening plates and bolt connections used to join the primary components of earth retention systems (shoring). In infrastructure, these plates rely primarily on the mechanism of friction to bear immense structural loads. I translated this industrial function of joining separate elements through frictional force into a ring that fastens human fingers together.
